The Supernatural Strings of Vampwyre is an American comic book series created by Zach Lynch & self published under their Blue Shack Comics company. The series launched in 2022 via the crowdfunding website Kickstarter, where it had a successful campaign. The series gives us the origin story of Tyrus, a rock musician who gets turned into an AI guided, bio-electrical being called Vampwyre, who is attempting to learn about his identity & purpose. The series has released four issues so far, all of which have successfully received support via the aforementioned crowdfunding website.
For the first issue, Transcience LLC (owners of the Sea-Monkeys brand) served as a major sponsor for the crowdfunding project, allowing them to have some ad presence in the issue. This marked the return of a Sea-Monkeys ad inside the pages of a comic book after 40 years. X-Ray Spex, another nostalgic toy by the inventor of Sea-Monkeys, also made an appearance in the pages of this issue. The art & design of these ads was done by Sea-Monkeys’ artist, Tod R. Machin.
In addition to the ad pages, Vampwyre Issue #1 received a Sea-Monkeys variant cover featuring our aquatic friends with the titular character. The art for this variant cover was done by Kim Harris (penciler), Mark McKenna (inker) & Thomas Chu (colorist).
In the following two issues we saw new ads pages for Sea-Monkeys & X-Ray Spex.
