A Valentine’s Wedding

On Valentine’s Day 1980, 45 years ago, was the date that Harold and Yolanda got married.

In a ‘Daily News’ article from February 15th, 1980, we get a brief look at some of the Valentine’s Day events that occurred around New York that year. Amongst those celebrations, we find one that corresponds to a couple familiar to us in the Sea-Monkey community.

As per the article, Harold and Yolanda were one of the sixteen couples that got married on that distinct day at the New York Playboy Club (closed in 1986); the ceremony was followed by a dinner, and they eventually had “a lavish four-day honeymoon” at the Playboy Resort (sold in 1982) in Great Gorge, New Jersey.

“One of the winners, Yolanda Signorelli, 32, an executive secretary from Manhattan, wrote a poem explaining that she had tried for 12 years to get her boyfriend, Harold Braunhut, 53, to marry her. As a lark she got him to agree to the marriage if she won the contest.”

The rest is history, as some of us know it. Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
